Legends of Tomorrow Video Offers Sneak Peek at Star City 2046

Legends of Tomorrow Video Offers Sneak Peek at Star City 2046[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Legends of Tomorrow ahead.]-We’re three episodes into DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and getting a feel for the team dynamic as they travel through time trying to stop the immortal villain Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) from destroying the world. It turns out to be more chaotic than even expected, since Time Master Rip Hunter’s (Arthur Darvill) mission is apparently not-so-sanctioned by his bosses after all – and in addition to that tricky butterfly effect, there are all sorts of things that can go horribly wrong, when you mess with the timeline.Legends of Tomorrow mined The CW series Arrow and The Flash for its main characters, bringing together The Atom (Brandon Routh), White Canary (Caity Lotz), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), the two halves of Firestorm (Victor Garber and Franz Drameh), Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee). The team has already lost Hawkman to Savage’s energy-absorbing murderous rage, but the combination of the destiny duo’s resurrection skills and time travel means we’ll likely be seeing Carter Hall again in some form. With the spin-off show’s characters so tied to Arrow and The Flash, it’s not surprising that we’ll be running into more heroes from those two shows in future installments. As the above video from DC Entertainment reveals, the Legends group will be landing in Arrow’s Star City in an upcoming episode. The twist is that it will be in 2046, in a future where Savage’s victorious efforts see the city in smoldering ruins.

This isn’t bad news for all the characters, it seems. As actor Purcell reveals in DC’s behind-the-scenes clip, his character Heat Wave is happy to be “surrounded by like-minded people, will air on February 25, 2016.Source: DC Entertainment

Legends of Tomorrow: First Look At Oliver Queen 2046

Legends of Tomorrow: First Look At Oliver Queen 2046DC Comics has etched for itself a sizable chunk of primetime television real estate, with The Flash airing on Tuesdays, Arrow on Wednesdays, and now Legends of Tomorrow on Thursdays. Establishing a time and place – in this case, 8/7c on The CW – where viewers can visit the DC Universe for three hours (four if we ignore that Supergirl airs on CBS, and five if we’re really generous and include Gotham on FOX), DC has created for fans a weekly window into their world.Tuning in to the DC/CW Universe at the same time, same channel certainly helps with ratings, but the presentation also lends itself to characters appearing on each others’ show. Obviously, The Flash and Arrow have seen great success from their crossover episodes, and Legends of Tomorrow’s cast is almost entirely comprised of characters originally seen on Flash and/or Arrow. In fact, those series’ respective leads, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) were there at the top of Legends’ pilot episode, firmly cementing the series as a vital part of their expanding universe.Since then, however, both The Flash and Green Arrow have been absent from the series, which, frankly, is understandable given how busy the Waverider crew has been traveling through time, hunting down Vandal Savage. Besides, this isn’t their show – but, being that all these series exist within the same universe, one of them was bound to make another appearance eventually.

And that appearance is coming next week, actually, because while Rip Hunter and his gang of misfits arrive in a dismal future where they never defeated Savage or returned home, they’ll meet a future version of Green Arrow in ‘Star City 2046.’ Amell himself shared a few photos, offering our first look at the older, bearded Oliver. Take a look, below:Get up old man… pic.twitter.com/xW7eQQCm7g- Stephen Amell (@amellywood) February 18, 2016I count 6 Legends and………. 2 GA (see the video above) confirms that it’s Deathstroke terrorizing Oliver’s city in this bleak future.Legends of Tomorrow returns next week at 8/7c on The CW in ‘Star City 2046.’Source: Stephen Amell, The CW

Archie Adaptation Riverdale Casts Its Jughead and Betty

Archie Adaptation Riverdale Casts Its Jughead and BettyArchie and the gang at Riverdale have seen quite a few changes in the last few years, from a zombie invasion to a complete redesign of the characters to a planned movie and then a network-hopping TV series. It seems like what was once considered the dorky younger brother of the superhero comics at Marvel and DC has finally come into its own.Archie is, at its heart, a story about an all-American guy who has spent the last 75 years trying to decide between a blonde and a brunette while his goofy friend Jughead primarily concerns himself with the acquisition of hamburger sandwiches. It is a YA story that has withstood the test of time, and with YA adaptations being all the rage in television and cinema right now, it’s no surprise that The CW is adding the Archie adaptation Riverdale to its lineup. One of the big questions, though, is who will be playing the live-action versions of Archie and his pals. The way is over now – at least partially – as it has been announced who will be playing Betty and Jughead. Betty will be played by Lili Reinhart, and Jughead will be played by Cole Sprouse. Reinhart has previously appeared on Law and Order: SVU, The Kings of Summer, and the short-lived FOX sitcom Surviving Jack. Sprouse is best known for starring with his twin brother Dylan in Disney’s The Suite Life with Zack and Cody and its follow up series, The Suite Life on Deck.BREAKING: Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse cast as BETTY and JUGHEAD for #Riverdale on @TheCW https://t.co/mWE1jpWEa0 pic.twitter.com/ih7OcxSmXS- Archie Comics (@ArchieComics) February 9, 2016Those are two interesting choices to play updates on these familiar characters, especially given the character descriptions that were released late last year:Betty Cooper – The blonde and pretty sophomore is described as having “some self-esteem issues and affinity for Adderall.” Eager-to-please, wholesome and studious, Betty has a super-crush on her longtime best bud, Archie. But tired of being the “perfect” everything, she turns to her new friend, Veronica, for life advice. Betty has an emotionally brittle mom, a goth-like sister and a coveted spot on the cheerleading squad — though with certain conditions….Jughead Jones – A hearing-impaired actor is being sought to play Jughead as an “eom-heartthrob.” The lanky lad is Archie’s former best friend, seeing as the two still are smarting from a rift that took place between them. Angry, but with a philosophical bent, Jughead “refuses to take the olive branch being proffered by Archie, the hurt goes that deep.”Those descriptions seemingly give the actors a lot to work with, especially Sprouse, who not only has to deal with Jughead and Archie’s falling out, but also – potentially – depicting a character who is hearing impaired. How he plans to manage the whole “emo-heartthrob” thing will also be reason to keep an eye on the show. Meanwhile, Reinhart will have an opportunity to take a stab at a version of Betty that has not really been seen before, and possibly give the long-standing character the sort of modern-day overhaul that is a hit with fans both new an old.

For those who are unfamiliar with this update of the comic series, the official Archie Comics website has released a synopsis of the upcoming TV series:”The live-action series offers a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring small-town life and the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade. The show will focus on the eternal love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich socialite Veronica Lodge, and will include the entire cast of characters from the comic books—including Archie’s rival, Reggie Mantle, and his slacker best friend, Jughead Jones.”Is the world ready for a “bold, subversive” take on the Archie comics? More adult reboots of series once geared towards children have been in the news recently, so Riverdale is definitely part of an ongoing trend. The target demographic for The CW is young enough to both appreciate the series’ young adult themes and not be too well-versed in its lengthy history, so the timing may be right for the series to find an audience. Will the show finally resolve the decades-old Betty vs. Veronica debate, though? That seems less likely.Screen Rant will keep you updated on Riverdale as development continues.Source: Deadline, Archie Comics

New Star Trek TV Series Sets Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller As Its Showrunner

New Star Trek TV Series Sets Hannibals Bryan Fuller As Its Showrunner2016 is the 50th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s original Star Trek TV show (and thus, the Star Trek franchise in general), which is why there are some major projects in the works to commemorate the occasion. Not only will the next Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond, hit theaters this year, but there is also going to be the Star Trek 50th anniversary cruise taking place, a fresh Star Trek convention held in New York City (the location of the first Star Trek convention in 1972), and a Star Trek TV show that will debut in early 2017. CBS will use the new Star Trek TV series to boost viewership for its streaming service (which is called CBS All Access), with Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness writer Alex Kurtzman set as an executive producer on the project.Plot details for the new Star Trek series are scarce to be found, though it’s been confirmed the show will follow a brand-new set of characters “seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations,” on their adventures through space. Now, however, the series has a showrunner formally in place – Bryan Fuller, to be exact.CBS has confirmed that Fuller will serve as showrunner on the new Star Trek series, while Kurtzman has praised Fuller’s “encyclopedic” knowledge of the Star Trek property in a statement – saying it is “surpassed only by his love for Gene Roddenberry’s optimistic future, a vision that continues to guide us as we explore strange new worlds.” Here is the official statement from Fuller, regarding the news:“My very first experience of ‘Star Trek’ is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls. Before seeing a frame of the television series, the ‘Star Trek’ universe lit my imagination on fire. It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand new iteration of ‘Star Trek’ with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no ‘Star Trek’ series has gone before.”

Bryan Fuller will serve as the showrunner for the new Star Trek TV Series

Fuller, for those not aware, actually got his start in television serving as a writer for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and as a writer/producer for Star Trek: Voyager. He has since created numerous short-lived, but nevertheless critically acclaimed cult hit TV series – including, the grim reaper comedy Dead Like Me, quirky supernatural crime-solving comedy Pushing Daisies – and most recently, the often darkly surreal (and twisted) Hannibal series. Currently, Fuller is working on the Starz TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel, American Gods, with filming on the show scheduled to begin in Spring 2016. However, American Gods also boasts Michael Green as co-showrunner, so presumably the latter will be stepping up to keep American Gods moving full speed ahead while Fuller turns more of his attention to getting the new Star Trek series off the ground. That combination of experience writing for Star Trek TV shows of old – series that (as a whole) placed more of an emphasis on socially-progressive themes and science fiction allegories than the recent (and by comparison, more divisive) Star Trek movies – and proven knack for being able to serve up creative spins on well-established genres bodes well for the prospect of Fuller leading the charge with this new Star Trek TV show. Fuller has expressed an interest in making a new Star Trek TV show for years now, so there’s all the more reason to believe that he will make a good effort to deliver a Star Trek TV series that Trekkies of all shades can fully throw their support behind.NEXT: CBS Will Have Limited Creative Control Over New Star Trek TV ShowStar Trek Beyond opens in U.S. theaters on July 22, 2016. The new Star Trek TV show pilot will premiere on CBS in January 2017 and stream exclusively through CBS All Access thereafter.Source: CBS

Supergirl Promo Images: Kara Takes on Master Jailer

Supergirl Promo Images: Kara Takes on Master JailerCBS’ Supergirl has earned a substantial fan following and an increasingly positive reception for its positive storytelling, superheroic action, and clever use of DC Comics mythology. With all that buzz, plus an upcoming Multiverse-jumping crossover with DC’s other surprise TV smash, The Flash, the series seems poised to become a potent ongoing force in the primetime schedule. But for now, Kara has plenty on her own plate. In fact, her next adventure brings a violent encounter with The Master Jailer and the arrival of Silver Banshee. The February 22 episode, titled ‘Truth, Justice and The American Way’, finds Kara struggling against a mystertious new enemy in the form of The Master Jailer, a moderately-obscure Superboy/Superman villain from the comics reimagined as a threatening armored enforcer doling out vigilante punishment to the escapees of Fort Razz – the Kryptonian Phantom Zone space prison that crashed on Earth (releasing its incarcerated payload) in the same event that initially brought Kara to our world. A near-match for Supergirl in physical strength and equipped with a variety of high-tech traps, snares and offensive weapons, Master Jailer promises to be one of the young heroine’s most dangerous opponents yet.

In addition, the episode will feature the first appearance of Italia Ricci as Siobhan Smythe, better known as Silver Banshee – a superhuman teleporter with sonic-scream powers and (traditionally) a supernatural/dark-magic origin story. While Silver Banshee’s powers and origin for the series are unknown, this version of Smythe is a new assistant hired by Kara’s employer Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) who immediately attempts to outshine her at work. While the character’s overall role in the series is also unknown, Ricci has been spotted in Silver Banshee makeup in behind-the-scenes photos of the upcoming Supergirl/Flash crossover, suggesting that her story will continue over several episodes. The episode was directed by action filmmaker Lexi Alexander, best known for Green Street Hooligans and the ultra-violent Punisher: Warzone. An outspoken critic of sexist hiring practices in Hollywood, she made news by publicly refusing to consider directing Wonder Woman despite heavy fan support (Warner Bros. is not reported to have offered her the job), but later earned raves for directing a well-received episode of The CW’s Arrow. A prominent figure in the world of social media, Alexander’s presence as director is expected to draw potential new viewers to the series, which has occasionally been met with criticism from fans unhappy with its lighter tone and focus on workplace and relationship drama compared to the darker renderings of Arrow or Gotham. The fight sequences between Supergirl and Master Jailer have already been praised by the cast and crew, with some suggesting that Alexander (whose skillfully choreographed action scenes are a directorial trademark) has redefined the way Kara’s fighting style will be presented in future episodes. Given their overwhelming strength, elaborate hand-to-hand combat isn’t typically part of how Kryptonian heroes are depicted in live-action DC properties, but in the comics its been long established that Superman, Supergirl and others train themselves in styles of martial-arts native tom Krypton – most notably Torquasm-Rao and Torquasm-Vo – though it’s unclear whether this detail of DC mythology influence Alexander’s fight-sequences.The Supergirl episode ‘Truth, Justice and The American Way’ airs Monday, February 22 on CBS.Source: Supergirl

Daredevil Season 2 Promo: The Punisher Fears No Man

Daredevil Season 2 Promo: The Punisher Fears No ManWith the widespread acclaim that greeted the season 1 of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix, it’s understandable that the upcoming second season carries with it an extremely high level of anticipation. Perhaps the biggest addition to Daredevil’s second Netflix outing is the character of Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher. This time played by The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal, Castle has been brought to cinematic life three times prior, only for each iteration to disappoint a large section of The Punisher fanbase. While viewers the world over wait to see whether the fourth time will be the charm, Netflix has seen fit to release a new short promo for Daredevil season 2 that serves to make clear The Punisher fears no man – not even The Man Without Fear.Short and to the point, the promo above features Bernthal’s Punisher walking straight toward camera in what sounds like an NYC subway tunnel. In one hand, Castle holds a gigantic gun; in the other, Matt Murdock’s Daredevil mask. While it’s been known for some time that the driving conflict for Daredevil season 2 would be Matt Murdock’s law-abiding superhero vs. Frank Castle’s take-no-prisoners vigilante, each new piece of promotional material has served to further drive home the stakes of this fight. Frank Castle will do absolutely anything to bring what he feels is justice to the streets of Hell’s Kitchen, and if that means he has to go through Matt Murdock’s red-suited alter ego then that’s just what he’ll (at least try to) do.

Of course, The Punisher isn’t the only potentially explosive addition to the mix of Daredevil season 2. Also joining the cast is Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung), an ex of Matt’s that hides her own deadly secrets. Marvel fans will recall this isn’t Elektra’s first on-screen incarnation either, with the character having been played by Jennifer Garner in the 2003 Daredevil film and its 2005 spinoff movie Elektra. Needless to say, most hope that Netflix’s rendition of the sai-wielding assassin/conflicted Murdock love interest can serve to rejuvenate Elektra’s brand as well as it did Daredevil’s.Hitting Netflix queues just one short week before DC blockbuster Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters, Daredevil season 2 seeks to prove that the success of the series’ first season was more than just a fluke, and cement Marvel streaming properties as a viable platform for years to come. Will it succeed? At this point, it doesn’t seem wise to bet against Matt Murdock.NEXT: Daredevil Season 2 TrailerDaredevil season 1 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Daredevil season 2 will debut on Netflix on March 18th, 2016, followed by Luke Cage season 1 later in 2016. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, Iron Fist, and The Defenders on Netflix have not yet been announced. A Punisher spin-off is also in development.Source: Netflix

Fuller House Trailer: Home, Sweet Home!

Fuller House Trailer: Home, Sweet Home!Fuller House, the sequel series to beloved ’90s family sitcom Full House, is headed to Netflix later this month. The show will pick up with the Tanner family – the children all grown up and with families of their own – when the eldest sister D.J. (Candace Cameron-Bure) is left widowed with three young sons. Following a similar premise to Full House, D.J.’s sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) move in with her in order to help raise their blended family together. In an effort to bring in viewers of the original series, the streaming site’s marketing push of Fuller House has largely relied on nostalgia, teasing the return to the Tanner’s San Francisco home, and releasing a featurette with fans talking about Full House. Now, Netflix has debuted the first full-length trailer for the sequel series.Cameron-Bure, Barber, and Sweetin appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show [h/t The Wrap] where they talked about returning to their roles on Fuller House and premiered the first full-length trailer (beginning at roughly the 2:30 mark in the above video). The trailer depicts Stephanie and Kimmy moving in with D.J. and establishing the new generation, undercut by the original theme song transitioning into the new version recorded by Carly Rae Jepsen. The Fuller House trailer also heavily features the adult cast from Full House, including Bob Saget as Danny Tanner, John Stamos as Jesse Katsopolis, Dave Coulier as Joey Gladstone, and Lori Loughlin as Rebecca Donaldson-Katsopolis. The youngest generation consists of new cast members Michael Campion, Elias Harger, Dashieli and Fox Messitt, and Soni Nicole Bringas as D.J.’s sons Jackson, Max, Tommy, and Kimmy’s daughter Ramona, respectively. The only original main cast members not set to appear in Fuller House are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (who played youngest Tanner daughter Michelle), though Cameron-Bure assured viewers of Ellen that the twins are always welcome to return if the show is renewed for a second season.

Like much of the previous teasers for Fuller House, the full-length trailer features a hefty dose of nostalgia aimed at fans of Full House, with iconic phrases appearing: “Hola Tannerinos,” “Have mercy,” and “How rude!” Additionally, with Kimmy being stuck in the ’90s – and using a whole host of slang phrases from the decade – the Full House nostalgia seems to be as integral to the show as it has been to the teasers and promos released up to this point. However, the full-length trailer also gives us our first real look at the new generation of kids in the Tanner family home. For instance, Kimmy’s daughter Ramona, who isn’t too thrilled by the idea of moving in with D.J. and Stephanie to create a larger blended family. Certainly, these glimpses in the trailer offer hope that Fuller House won’t simply rely on Full House nostalgia – even if there is a lot included in the sequel series – and can stand on its own as an entertaining family sitcom.Next: Fuller House Official Cast Photo & Episode Images ReleasedFuller House season 1 will premiere in its entirety on Netflix on February 26th, 2016.Source: The Ellen DeGeneres Show [via The Wrap]
